Sacramento offers a lot of great activities to travelers willing to explore California beyond San Francisco, Napa Valley, and Lake Tahoe. Located just 1.5 hours away from San Francisco, Sacramento is often visited as a day trip, but with so much to do and see in this great city, there are plenty of reasons to stay the night.

There are lots of accommodation options available in Sacramento, but our preference and recommendation is to stay in places with a bit more of a local charm and character rather than a bland hotel room. That’s why we think Airbnb is a great alternative.

There are over 200 Airbnb listings in Sacramento, ranging from private rooms as cheap as $14/night to a stunning gated 3 bedroom villa with swim-up bar and personal Jacuzzi set among the palms in the Elk Grove area.

But the best of Sacramento’s mid-range rooms can be found within the $100-$150 range. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Artist’s Loft In Midtown from $89/night

Enjoy the beautifully decorated huge bedroom in a converted attic. The sleeping area has a queen bed and a double futon, making it suitable for a couple or a family.

The unit also comes with a fully-stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, dining room, back patio, and a spacious front porch, which the owners claim is the perfect spot to watch the sunset.

The loft is beautifully decorated featuring great architectural details like an exposed brick chimney, skylights, and a spiral staircase. So romantic!

Charming Downtown Apartment from $148/night

This great apartment is located right in the heart of downtown Sacramento within walking distance to the Capitol, as well as many shops and restaurants in the city.

The apartment offers a queen-size bed along with an extra futon in the front room. The kitchen is fully stocked, and the host even offers a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer chilled and waiting for your arrival. It’s a nice touch that sets this great place apart from many others.

Entire Modern Apt In Midtown from $152/night

This modern urban apartment is another unique space located in the heart of Midtown Sacramento. This loft used to house a local artist and a musician and retained lots of its original character and artistic feel.

The 1,000-square-foot unit features a king-size bed and a convertible sofa and can easily accommodate a group of four.

The host, Benjamin, is a native of Sacramento and is one of the founders of The Sacramento Press, an online newspaper that circulates in the area. He lives and works in the area and is a great source of advice for where to eat, what to do, and what not to miss out on when staying in Sacramento.
